F-X Lachance Exhibition

This house was called the Villa des Bosquets and was the family home of the Fillion family who owned the Shipyard of Saint-Laurent. This house also served as accommodation for seasonal workers on the site from Île-aux-Coudres and Île-aux-grues. Unfortunately, the Villa no longer exists today.

F-X Lachance Exhibition

François-Xavier Lachance is a man of importance in Saint-Laurent-de-l’Île-d’Orléans, he was an excellent navigator and a well-known builder of pleasure boats. A native of Ile au Canot, he greatly contributed to the maritime industry in Saint-Laurent with his boat in front of the village church. He also came to support the Fillion family at the Shipyard of Saint-Laurent.

The legacy of François-Xavier Lachance

Mr. Lachance’s boathouse was near the church of Saint-Laurent, a few steps from the Shipyard of Saint-Laurent. Now the building is used by the local company Tigidou which makes homemade jams. Also, the former presbytery of Saint-Laurent, opposite from the former rowboat shop, was renamed in honor of François-Xavier. The building is called Espace F-X Lachance. His family is still very involved in projects involving his legacy. The digital exhibition was created when our institution was still called the Parc maritime de Saint-Laurent.
